Dry vs Liquid Measuring Cups
Both hold the same volume (1 cup = 236.6 ml). The difference is technique:
- Dry cups are filled to the brim and leveled with a straight edge. Spoon flour into the cup — scooping packs it and can add 20–30% more.
- Liquid cups have a spout and headroom; read at eye level on a flat surface.
- Sticky ingredients (honey, peanut butter): lightly oil the cup.
For consistent baking, weigh: a cup of flour can vary from 115 g to 150 g depending on how it is filled. Our flour page uses 120 g per cup.
FAQ
Can I measure flour in a liquid cup?
You can, but leveling is harder, so results vary more.
